Lillian Feinstein Senior Center

Capital City Community Center is dedicated to increasing the health and wellness of our senior citizens. Our Lillian Feinstein Senior Center, located at 1085 Chalkstone Avenue in Providence, RI, serves approximately 40 seniors from the Smith Hill, Valley, Mount Pleasant, Wanskuck and Elmhurst neighborhoods. The center is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Many of the seniors engaged in this program have difficulty getting their health needs met and benefit tremendously from the free health screenings, wellness, and prevention programs that we provide. The center also offers a daily catered lunch, and access to case management services including referrals to social services and food assistance through Capital City’s Food Pantry.

Many of the seniors that we serve live alone and have limited opportunities to socialize.  For many, they would have no other source of group interaction were it not for our Senior Center. What’s more, because many of the seniors have been attending the center for several years, a true sense of community has developed, and the more youthful and vigorous seniors volunteer their time to assist those who are older, frailer, or partially infirmed. All programs and services are designed to promote optimal health and wellness and opportunities for socialization with peers, and are available to those from all income levels.

Here’s a few of the types of recreational activities that are scheduled monthly:

  • Exercise classes, including supportive routines for arthritis
  • Computer classes
  • Memory activities
  • Bingo, cards and tabletop games
  • Musical entertainment
  • Knitting and crocheting
  • Financial literacy
  • Shopping excursions
  • Community trips
  • Holiday parties

Transportation is available through the RI Department of Transportation’s RIDE program.
